Gemini is Google's AI assistant, and the company sells it in more forms than any of its rivals do. Individuals can choose between a free app and four paid Google AI plans, while businesses receive Gemini inside their Google Workspace seats, and developers, meanwhile, pay for the same models by the token through the Gemini API.

In 2026, Google has changed almost every one of those prices at least once. It cut its top Ultra plan from $249.99 to $99.99 a month in May, lowered its new Plus plan to $4.99 in June and, on October 9, moved free users to Flash-Lite, the smallest model in the Gemini family.

Further changes have already been scheduled for the new year, since Google's own rate card shows its Flash models doubling in price on January 1, 2027, and a discount on Workspace business plans will end on January 27.

This guide compares every free and paid Google AI plan as it stands in October 2026, and it then uses the price changes so far to estimate what Gemini will cost in 2027.

Every Google AI Plan at a Glance

Google lists five consumer options in the US, because Ultra now comes in two sizes, and every paid plan bundles extra Google One storage with its AI features.

Plan Price per month (US) Gemini models in the app Usage allowance Storage
Free $0 Flash-Lite Base allowance 15 GB
Google AI Plus $4.99 Flash-Lite and Flash Twice the free allowance 400 GB
Google AI Pro $19.99 Every model, including Gemini 4 Argon and 3.1 Pro Four times the free allowance 5 TB
Google AI Ultra $99.99 Every model, with Deep Think and the Gemini Spark agent About five times Pro 20 TB
Google AI Ultra (higher limit) $199.99 Every model, plus Project Genie Up to twenty times Pro 20 TB and above

Since I/O in May 2026, usage on every plan has been measured by compute instead of by a daily count of prompts, so a short text question uses far less of the allowance than a long video or coding session does, and the allowance refreshes every five hours, up to a weekly cap.

The Free Gemini Plan

The free plan needs only a Google account, and it still includes features that rivals often keep for paying users, since image generation with Nano Banana 2 and Deep Research reports are both available without a card, while the standard 15 GB of storage is shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos.

On October 9, however, the free plan lost its stronger models. Free users, who had Gemini 3.6 Flash and a varying share of Gemini 3.1 Pro until then, now receive Flash-Lite alone, with a 32,000-token context window that will handle quick answers and short emails, although it cannot hold a long contract or a full report.

Even after that cut, Gemini's free plan offers more than most of the other AI assistants to try for free, and Google has also made the paid plans easier for students to obtain. Eligible US college students can claim a year of Google AI Pro at no cost, and students in more than 140 other markets can claim a year of AI Plus, although both offers will close on December 31, 2026.

Paid Google AI Plans Compared

Google offers four paid AI subscription options, each with different pricing, usage limits, storage, and features. Here's what each plan includes and who it's best suited for.

Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month

Google brought AI Plus to the US in January 2026 at $7.99 a month, after it had first launched in Indonesia in September 2025, and in June it cut the price to $4.99 while doubling the storage to 400 GB. For that money, a subscriber receives twice the free allowance and a 128,000-token context window, along with 200 monthly AI credits for Google's video and image tools.

In October, Google removed the Pro model from AI Plus, so the plan now offers Flash and Flash-Lite only. It will suit people who want more of the free experience and a good deal more storage, although anyone who expected Pro-class answers for $4.99 has lost the main reason they subscribed.

Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month

Google AI Pro replaced the Google One AI Premium plan at I/O in May 2025, and its price has stayed at $19.99 a month ever since. It is the plan Google has strengthened most this year, because Gemini 4 Argon, the company's newest flagship model, was added on October 13, while Deep Think, which had been kept for Ultra, also moved to Pro in October.

The plan includes Gemini 3.1 Pro with a 1-million-token context window, 5 TB of storage and 1,000 monthly AI credits, and it brings Gemini into Gmail and Docs for personal Google accounts. New subscribers have often been offered half price for the first year, which brings the effective cost close to $10 a month.

Google AI Ultra at $99.99 a month

Google AI Ultra cost $249.99 a month when it launched in May 2025, which made it the most expensive consumer AI plan on the market, until Google cut it by 60% at I/O on May 19, 2026. The entry Ultra plan now gives roughly five times the Pro allowance and 20 TB of storage, and it includes YouTube Premium as well.

Ultra subscribers in the US also receive Gemini Spark, Google's always-on AI agent, which keeps working in the background, and Project Mariner, which completes tasks in a browser. Ultra is also the only plan that offers Gemini 4 Argon inside Google Antigravity and AI Studio, which will interest developers who already pay for a consumer plan.

Google AI Ultra at $199.99 a month

The higher Ultra plan raises the allowance to up to twenty times Pro and adds Project Genie, Google's world model, so it has been priced for people who would otherwise exhaust the entry Ultra allowance every week. For anyone who uses Gemini a few hours a day, the $99.99 plan will almost certainly be enough.

Gemini for Business: Google Workspace Plans

Since early 2025, businesses have received Gemini as part of their Google Workspace seats, because Google withdrew the separate Gemini add-on, which had cost $20 or more per user a month, and raised the price of its Business plans by roughly 17 to 22% to absorb it.

Workspace plan Annual plan, per user a month Flexible plan, per user a month Gemini features
Business Starter $7 $8.40 Gemini in Gmail and the Gemini app
Business Standard $14 $16.80 Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Meet, plus expanded Gemini Notebook access
Business Plus $22 $26.40 Everything in Standard, with Vault and stronger security controls
Enterprise Custom Custom The highest Gemini allowances
Google AI Ultra (higher limit) $199.99 Every model, plus Project Genie Up to twenty times Pro

Unlike its personal plans, which are described only as multiples of a free allowance, Google publishes fixed Gemini app limits for Workspace accounts, and the gap between Business Starter and Business Standard turns out to be much wider than the $7 difference in their prices.

Gemini app limit Business Starter Business Standard and Plus With AI Expanded Access With AI Ultra Access
Gemini 4 Argon Not included Not included Up to 200 prompts a day Up to 500 prompts a day
Pro model Basic access, which varies Up to 25 prompts every 4 hours Argon instead Argon instead
Thinking model Basic access, which varies Up to 300 prompts a day Up to 600 prompts a day Up to 1,500 prompts a day
Context window 32,000 tokens 1 million tokens 1 million tokens 1 million tokens
Deep Research 5 reports a month 20 reports a day 30 reports a day 120 reports a day
Image generation (Nano Banana 2) Up to 20 a day Up to 100 a day Up to 100 a day Up to 100 a day
Video generation Not included Up to 3 a day Up to 3 a day Up to 5 a day

In practice, a Business Standard seat at $14 a month gives each employee the same 1-million-token context window as a $19.99 AI Pro plan, along with daily Deep Research and video generation, although Gemini 4 Argon, which AI Pro subscribers have used since October 13, has been kept for the AI Expanded Access and AI Ultra Access add-ons that Google sells on top of the base seats.

Business Starter, by contrast, offers the same 32,000-token window as the free consumer plan and only five Deep Research reports a month. Its chats, however, like those on every Workspace edition that includes Gemini as a core service, are never reviewed by people or used to train Google's models, and Gemini inside Gmail and Docs is metered separately from these app limits.

Google's pricing also includes discounts of 20% to 50% on new annual subscriptions from October 27, 2026, to January 27, 2027, depending on the plan. After the promotional period, standard pricing will apply. For companies already paying for Google Workspace, Gemini comes at no additional cost, making it one of the most affordable ways to provide every employee with an AI assistant.

Gemini in Gmail drafts and summarises well, although it was designed around one person's inbox, and Gmelius's round-up of Google AI writer tools found that its features are limited to drafting help, with nothing for shared inboxes or the workflows a team manages through email.

How Gemini Prices Have Changed Since 2024

Gemini Advanced went on sale on February 8, 2024, inside the $19.99 Google One AI Premium plan, and Google has changed its prices many times since then, most of them in 2026.

Date Change
January 1, 2027 Gemini Flash API rates double to $1.50 and $7.50 (scheduled)
December 1, 2026 Gemini 4 Argon API rates double to $4.00 and $20.00 (scheduled)
October 13, 2026 Gemini 4 Argon added to AI Pro and Ultra, and to the API at $2.00 and $10.00
October 9, 2026 Free plan limited to Flash-Lite; Pro model removed from AI Plus
September 2, 2026 Gemini 3.8 Flash launched at an introductory $0.75 and $3.75
June 8, 2026 AI Plus cut from $7.99 to $4.99, with storage doubled to 400 GB
May 19, 2026 AI Ultra cut from $249.99 to $99.99; $199.99 tier added; compute-based limits introduced
January 27, 2026 AI Plus launched in the US at $7.99
September 2025 AI Plus launched in Indonesia
May 20, 2025 AI Premium renamed Google AI Pro at $19.99; AI Ultra launched at $249.99
Early 2025 Gemini bundled into Workspace; Business plan prices raised
February 8, 2024 Gemini Advanced launched in the $19.99 Google One AI Premium plan

The subscription prices have mostly fallen, since Ultra now costs 60% less than it did at launch and Plus costs less than it did in January, while Pro has stayed at $19.99 for more than two and a half years.

The free plan and AI Plus both lost models in October, while Pro gained features that had belonged to Ultra, so what a subscriber receives for the same price has shifted far more than the price itself. The cheap introductory API rates that Google offered this autumn, meanwhile, were always due to expire.

How Gemini Compares With ChatGPT and Claude

We’ve compared Claude vs ChatGPT before, and we also analyzed how Gemini stacks up against the competition.

Tier Google OpenAI (ChatGPT) Anthropic (Claude)
Free Free plan on Flash-Lite Free plan, with ads in the US and other markets Free plan
Budget AI Plus, $4.99 Go, $8 No equivalent
Standard AI Pro, $19.99 Plus, $20 Pro, $20
Heavy use Ultra, $99.99 or $199.99 Pro, $100, $200 or $500 Max, $100 or $200
Business seat Workspace, from $7 per user (annual) Business, $20 per user (annual) Team, $20 per user (annual)

Google's prices undercut its rivals' at both ends of the ladder, since AI Plus costs $3 less than ChatGPT Go, and Ultra tops out at $199.99, against $500 for OpenAI's largest Pro plan. AI Pro, meanwhile, matches ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro almost to the cent, although it includes 5 TB of storage, which neither rival offers.

A Workspace seat also includes business email and storage, so a company that already pays for Workspace receives Gemini at no extra cost, whereas ChatGPT Business and Claude Team are AI seats bought on top of whatever email system a company uses. Gmelius's comparison of ChatGPT vs Gemini and four other assistants found that Google-first teams tend to prefer Gemini for that reason.

On the API, OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna, at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, now undercuts every current-generation Gemini model, so Google has lost the cheap end of that market, and Gemini 4 Argon will cost exactly the same as Claude Opus 5.5 once its introductory rate ends in December.

What Will Gemini Cost in 2027?

Google Gemini plan pricing
How much does Google Gemini cost?

Google's price lists already contain two increases, since the API rate for Gemini 4 Argon will double after its introductory price ends on November 30, and the Flash models will follow on January 1, 2027, when Gemini 3.8 Flash rises from $0.75 to $1.50 per million input tokens.

The Workspace promotion will end on January 27, and the free student plans will close on December 31, so many accounts will be paying full list prices in the first weeks of 2027, even if Google changes nothing else.

Google has not announced any change to its consumer subscription prices for 2027, and its behavior this year suggests that the price tags will hold while the contents of each tier continue to move. In 2026, Google lowered the prices of Ultra and Plus, and a few months later it removed models from the cheaper plans.

If that pattern continues, a $19.99 Pro subscription in late 2027 will probably include a newer model than Argon, while the free plan may receive less than it does today, since Google has already shown that it will trim the free tier when the models behind it grow expensive to serve.

OpenAI now sells a $500 Pro plan, and Anthropic's Max plans cost up to $200, so Google would have room above its $199.99 Ultra plan if it chose to add a larger tier, particularly for Ultra customers who keep Gemini Spark and Project Mariner busy all day.

For most buyers, the safest assumption is that AI Pro will still cost $19.99 in a year's time, while any developer who builds on the API should budget for the higher January rates from the first invoice.

Which Google AI Plan Fits Which User?

The right plan depends less on the list of models than on how many hours a day a person spends in Gemini, and on whether they would have paid Google for storage anyway.

Casual users

Anyone who asks Gemini a few questions a week, or who needs the occasional image or Deep Research report, will be well served by the free plan, although long documents will now need a paid plan, since the free context window holds only 32,000 tokens.

People who mainly need storage

Someone who already pays Google for extra storage should look at AI Plus first, because at $4.99 a month it bundles 400 GB with twice the free Gemini allowance, which makes it, in effect, a storage plan with AI attached.

Self-employed professionals

For daily writing and research from a personal Google account, AI Pro is the plan to buy, since it is the cheapest one with Gemini 4 Argon and Deep Think, and its 5 TB of storage will hold the files of most one-person businesses for years.

Teams

A team that shares email and documents should buy Workspace seats instead of individual AI Pro plans, because Business Standard costs $14 per user on an annual plan and brings Gemini into Gmail and Docs, along with the shared administration that personal accounts lack.

Heavy users and developers

The $99.99 Ultra plan suits people who exhaust the Pro allowance every week, or who want Gemini Spark working in the background, while developers should compare the API's batch rates with a subscription before they choose either one.

Conclusion

Google's AI plans are the cheapest of the big three at both the bottom and the top of the ladder, and AI Pro at $19.99 gives more storage and more of the Google apps than ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro offers for the same money. For anyone whose work already happens in Gmail and Docs, it's the sensible default.

Gemini can draft a reply in Gmail, but it's still built around one person's account, so it doesn't know which colleague owns a customer, and Gmelius's review of AI email response generators found that it can't be trained on a company's own documents, either.

Gmelius uses Google's Gemini models too, but Meli, its AI agent, works from a team's shared inbox and its business context, which means a Workspace company gets Google's models along with a clear record of who does what. Meli also powers an army of AI agents that complete tasks across other applications.
